An International student card will give you reductions on many things. This is a monthly expenses breakdown. These costs are only a guide. In London, as in any capital city, prices vary a lot!

TRAVEL EXPENSES IN LONDON 2008

For cheaper prices it is important that you buy a student “Oyster” card.Transport types covered by Oyster cards: the tube (metro), the bus, the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) and British Rail (BR). London is divided into 6 travel zones,with zone1,the most expensive for travel, in the middle. These are some prices for the central zones if you use a Student Oyster card*:
One Day Travelcard Zones 1-3 £8 (Adult ticket only).
*Weekly Travelcard Zones1-3 £19.80. (with student discount)
*Monthly Travelcard Zones 1-3 £76.10 (with student discount)

The British Council estimates around £800 per month to be the normal requirement for a foreign student in London. (This is £9.600 a year).
